There are four schools in Mazsalaca District: Mazsalaca Secondary School, Ramata Primary School, Mazsalaca Preschool and Mazsalaca Music and Art school.
Mazsalaca Secondary School is located in the beautiful area near the Salaca and Skaņaiskalns Nature Park. The school was built in 1976, it underwent heat insulation in 2002 and the facade gained a new and modern look. In 2013 the gymnasium was also insulated.

Mazsalaca Music and Art School is situated in two buildings - the music school is at 3A Pasta street and the art school is at 31 Parka Street next to Waltenberga Manor and the picturesque manor park. From 1988 to 1992 the Music School was run as a branch of the Rūjiena Music School, but since 1992 it has been independent school. The Art School was founded in 1992 by artists Jānis and Biruta Jansons. At first it was called the Skaņkalne Art School, but later it merged with music school to become Mazsalaca Music and Art School.

Mazsalaca Preschool is located at 14 Parka Street. One half of the building houses the Mazsalaca Hospital, the preschool has been in the other half since 2005. The orgins of the Mazsalaca Preschool date back to 1950.
